Reichert Slit Lamp XCEL 255 Used — Tabletop Biomicroscope with CT 210 Tonometer
The Reichert slit lamp XCEL 255 is a full-size tabletop biomicroscope engineered for high-contrast anterior segment examination. This Reichert slit lamp combines smooth joystick control, multi-step magnification, and precise slit beam adjustment in a compact, durable chassis built for daily clinical use. The package includes a Reichert CT 210 applanation tonometer for integrated IOP measurement at the same instrument without repositioning the patient.
Key Features
The XCEL 255 delivers sharp, detailed views of the cornea, anterior chamber, iris, and crystalline lens through a Galilean-type binocular microscope. Continuously adjustable slit width and height, combined with cobalt blue and neutral density filters, support fluorescein evaluation, gonioscopy assistance, and routine biomicroscopy. The XY joystick with vertical movement ensures precise, fatigue-free positioning during extended exam sessions. The included Reichert CT 210 contact tonometer mounts directly to the slit lamp head for seamless applanation IOP measurement in a single exam lane setup.

Clinical Background
Goldmann-type applanation tonometry performed at the slit lamp remains the gold standard for intraocular pressure measurement in clinical practice. As shown by Shrestha et al. in a comparative IOP study (Nepal J Ophthalmol, 2013 PMID 24172555), applanation tonometry at the slit lamp delivers reliable and clinically accepted IOP readings. The Reichert XCEL 255 with CT 210 tonometer provides this established workflow in a single compact instrument.
