The Reichert ClearChart 2 Digital Acuity System is a self-contained digital acuity chart built for optometry and ophthalmology exam lanes. Its 19-inch LED-backlit LCD runs on a dedicated operating system with no separate PC, hard drive, or cooling fans required — simply wall-mount the unit, plug it in, and start testing. The Reichert ClearChart 2 renders sharp optotypes at up to 220 cd/m² illumination across a 6 to 31 foot refraction range.
The infrared remote gives the examiner full control from anywhere in the room, cycling through chart types, test modes, and patient-education content without walking back to the unit. The system carries a comprehensive optotype library — 17-letter and 8-letter Sloan sets, HOTV, Landolt C, Landolt C and O, and Tumbling E, plus three pediatric symbol sets — with random sequencing to prevent memorization. Built-in contrast sensitivity testing uses sine-wave gratings and contrast optotypes, and the system is ETDRS protocol compliant.
A National Library of Medicine-indexed study reports that a digital acuity chart produces best-corrected visual acuity estimates clinically comparable to the printed ETDRS chart, supporting the digital-lane workflow the ClearChart 2 was designed for.
