Topcon SL-3E — Used Compact Slit Lamp with Optilasa Tonometer

The SL-3E uses Topcon’s Galilean optical design with halogen illumination and continuously variable slit-width control. The compact dual-column layout fits standard exam-lane stands. The integrated Optilasa applanation tonometer is compatible with standard Goldmann prisms — providing the gold-standard IOP measurement on the same instrument as the slit-lamp exam.
According to a National Library of Medicine-indexed study (Can J Ophthalmol, 2015), yellow- and blue-filtered fluorescein imaging produces clinically superior conjunctival and corneal staining contrast — the standard slit-lamp biomicroscopy workflow the SL-3E was designed for.
Why Practices Choose the SL-3E
Topcon Galilean optics — proven optical platform from the classical Topcon SL-Series.
- Compact dual-column design — fits standard exam-lane stands; well-suited for instrument-stand mounting.
- Continuously variable slit width — full clinical range for routine biomicroscopy.
- Halogen illumination — broadly stocked replacement bulbs vs. proprietary LED modules.
- Optilasa Goldmann-type tonometer — gold-standard applanation IOP measurement on the same instrument.
- Built-in cobalt-blue and red-free filters — fluorescein and vessel/RNFL inspection without filter swapping.
- Sub-$3.5K used price point — entry-tier full-featured slit-lamp + tonometer combo.
- Familiar Topcon ergonomics — staff already trained on Topcon SL-Series transition seamlessly.
Clinical Applications
- Routine slit-lamp biomicroscopy — anterior-segment evaluation including cornea, iris, lens, and anterior vitreous.
- Goldmann applanation tonometry — gold-standard IOP for glaucoma evaluation and follow-up.
- Corneal disease grading — staining patterns, abrasions, ulcers, post-surgical evaluation.
- Contact-lens fitting — fluorescein evaluation with cobalt-blue filter.
- Cataract grading — direct illumination and retroillumination for nuclear and cortical assessment.
Who This Is For
- Optometry and general ophthalmology practices wanting an entry-tier Topcon-branded slit-lamp + tonometer combo.
- Multi-doctor groups standardizing on Topcon SL-Series across all lanes.
