Zeiss Clarus 500 — Used Ultra-Widefield Fundus Camera

Zeiss Clarus 500 used — front view ultra-widefield fundus camera The Zeiss Clarus 500 is a next-generation ultra-widefield (UWF) retinal camera that captures exceptionally clear, True Color images of the fundus from the macula to the far periphery. This used Zeiss Clarus 500 is configured on a modern Windows 10 platform for stronger clinic cybersecurity, faster networking, and smoother EMR integration. Using Broad Line Fundus Imaging (BLFI), it delivers high-resolution clarity down to 7 microns so clinicians can zoom into peripheral lesions without sacrificing structural detail.

A single capture produces a 133° image, and HD images are automatically merged into a 200° ultra-widefield montage. Beyond True Color, the Zeiss Clarus 500 captures Fundus Autofluorescence (FAF-Blue and FAF-Green), Infrared (IR), and external eye photography — letting a practice document the retina across multiple modalities on one platform while avoiding the peripheral color distortion common in legacy widefield systems.

The National Library of Medicine documents that ultra-widefield examination of the peripheral retina reveals lesions and structural changes frequently missed by standard 45-degree fundus photography.

Why Practices Choose the Zeiss Clarus 500

Zeiss Clarus 500 used — workstation and imaging display

  • True Color ultra-widefield capture — natural, true-to-life color images of the retina to 200° using the integrated auto-montage software
  • Fundus Autofluorescence (FAF-Blue & FAF-Green) — non-invasively evaluates RPE health for managing geographic atrophy and macular dystrophies
  • 7 µm resolution — fine detail such as microaneurysms stays sharp across the entire widefield view
  • Windows 10 platform — seamless EMR integration, reliable database compliance, and fast data rendering
  • Multi-modal workstation — True Color, Red-Free, Infrared (IR), FAF, and external eye photography on one digital interface
  • Patient-friendly ergonomics — the camera head moves smoothly around the patient for a comfortable, non-intimidating exam posture
  • Small-pupil capability — optical design supports reliable widefield captures without routine dilation in many patients

In this clip from ZEISS, Dr. Jay Hayne (OD, FAAO) discusses the ultra-widefield, true-color image quality of the CLARUS 500 fundus camera.

Clinical Applications

  • Peripheral retina evaluation — identifying and tracking lattice degeneration, retinal tears, localized detachments, and nevus boundaries
  • Diabetic retinopathy grading — full peripheral documentation to catch early neovascularization and microvascular dropout outside the standard arcades
  • Macular degeneration progression mapping — FAF-Blue and FAF-Green track hyper/hypo-autofluorescent areas indicating geographic atrophy expansion
  • Inherited retinal dystrophy documentation — multimodal imaging to follow RPE changes over time

Who This Is For

  • Retina specialists and vitreoretinal surgeons needing high-resolution peripheral views with multimodal FAF tracking for complex medical retina cases
  • High-volume comprehensive eye centers seeking a multimodal screening platform that captures advanced data without moving patients between rooms
  • Multi-doctor clinics replacing legacy widefield systems with a color-accurate, Windows 10 imaging platform
