Zeiss Cirrus 5000 HD-OCT — Used Spectral-Domain OCT with AngioPlex
The Zeiss Cirrus 5000 HD-OCT is the FastTrac-equipped model of the CIRRUS platform: spectral-domain OCT with an 840 nm superluminescent diode, up to 68,000 A-scans per second, 5 µm axial resolution in tissue and a 2.0 mm scan depth. This used Zeiss Cirrus 5000 adds the AngioPlex OCT-Angiography module for dye-free 3-D microvascular imaging of the retina, and runs on a Windows 10 workstation.
Because FastTrac uses a 20 Hz line-scanning ophthalmoscope to track the eye during acquisition, the Zeiss Cirrus 5000 keeps scans registered to the same retinal location visit after visit — the foundation for RNFL, Ganglion Cell Analysis and Guided Progression Analysis in glaucoma follow-up.
A review indexed by the National Library of Medicine (Progress in Retinal and Eye Research, 2023) describes how OCT angiography visualizes capillary non-perfusion and neovascularization in diabetic retinopathy without dye injection — the clinical workload AngioPlex was built for.
