Used Sonomed PacScan 300A
The Sonomed PacScan 300A is an ophthalmic A-scan biometer designed to measure ocular dimensions using ultrasound. According to the manufacturer’s operator manual, it measures axial length, anterior chamber depth, and lens thickness, and uses the measurements together with keratometry readings and selected IOL calculation parameters to calculate intraocular lens power.
The system features a backlit LCD touchscreen, live A-scan display, gain control, storage for up to five scans, measurement review, and multiple examination modes. It supports normal cataract, dense cataract, aphakic, pseudophakic, and manual measurement modes.
Why Practices Choose the Sonomed PacScan 300A
-
Ocular biometry: Measures axial length, anterior chamber depth, and lens thickness.
-
IOL power calculation: Provides IOL calculations using supported formulas, including Binkhorst, Regression-II, Theoretic-T, Holladay, and Hoffer-Q.
-
Multiple examination modes: Supports different modes for cataract status and manual measurement.
-
Scan review and storage: Displays live A-scan patterns and stores up to five scans for later review and IOL calculation.
-
Touchscreen interface: Uses a backlit LCD touchscreen for entering information and viewing measurements and calculations.
-
Compact design: The manufacturer lists dimensions of 239 × 225 × 71 mm and a weight of approximately 2.7 kg (6 lb).
Clinical Applications
-
Preoperative cataract assessment
-
Axial length measurement for ocular biometry
-
Anterior chamber depth measurement
-
Crystalline lens thickness measurement
-
Intraocular lens power calculation before cataract surgery
-
Biometry in pseudophakic and aphakic eyes
-
Dense cataract measurements, using the corresponding examination mode
