Topcon KR-800 — Used Auto Kerato-Refractometer
The Topcon KR-800 is a compact tabletop auto kerato-refractometer that captures objective refraction and corneal curvature in a single seated measurement. Built on Topcon’s Rotary Prism technology, the Topcon KR-800 delivers stable sphere, cylinder, axis and K readings through pupils as small as 2 mm, giving your technicians a dependable starting point for every refraction. For practices that want proven Topcon pre-testing data without paying for subjective-testing or wavefront features they will not use, this used Topcon KR-800 is a practical, space-saving choice.
The KR-800 is a well-studied instrument: a study of 909 children and adolescents published by the National Library of Medicine used the Topcon KR-800 as the reference autorefractor and found very high agreement for spherical equivalent, sphere and cylinder readings (ICC 0.93–0.99).
Why Practices Choose the Topcon KR-800

- Refraction + keratometry in one instrument — objective refraction and corneal curvature are captured in the same session, so you do not need a separate keratometer in the pre-test lane.
- Rotary Prism technology — Topcon’s measurement principle for accurate, repeatable refractive and keratometric readings.
- Wide sphere range — −25.00D to +22.00D covers high myopes and high hyperopes encountered in general and specialty practice.
- Cylinder up to 10.00D — in 0.12D or 0.25D steps, with axis in 1° or 5° steps, for moderate to high astigmatism.
- Keratometry 33.75D–67.50D — corneal radius 5.00–10.00mm captures both flat and steep corneas for contact lens and surgical work-ups.
- 2 mm minimum pupil — reliable readings in small pupils and dim exam rooms.
- PD measurement and data output — pupillary distance 20–85mm, plus USB, RS-232C and LAN data ports for EMR workflows.
- Compact footprint — about 15 kg and roughly 33 × 53 cm, so it fits most pre-test rooms and shared exam lanes.
Clinical Applications
- Pre-exam refraction — an objective starting point that shortens subjective refraction and overall chair time.
- Contact lens fitting — K readings support base curve selection for soft, RGP and specialty lenses.
- Cataract and refractive surgery screening — keratometry and refraction data feed pre-operative planning.
- Pediatric and school-age screening — fast objective readings in patients who cannot complete reliable subjective testing.
- Corneal curvature follow-up — serial K readings help track corneal changes in keratoconus and post-surgical patients.
Who This Is For
- Optometry and general ophthalmology practices that need a dependable AR/K instrument for daily pre-testing.
- Contact lens specialists who want refraction and K readings from one device at every visit.
- Surgical practices adding a second pre-test station for cataract and refractive work-ups.
- New or satellite clinics looking for a compact Topcon autorefractor at a used-equipment price.
